Neuro-Adversity & Transition: Key timepoints for action

To support the development of trauma informed assessment tools in the criminal justice service.

Past research by the University of Exeter has made the case for better screening assessments of brain injury and related neuro-disabilities within police, prison and probation services to enable better provide and target evidence-based interventions. This research project will identify gaps in the current assessment process and make suggestions for improvements. The project will link developments in brain trauma with work on substance misuse and adversity. The research team will determine what the links are between neuro-disabilities and adversity to identify ways of working with vulnerable young people. The research team will be working with the developer of the Do-It Profiler assessment tool.  The team will gather histories of neuro-disabilities, past traumatic events, current mental health symptoms and substance misuse problems to determine revised profiles for developing interventions in criminal justice settings.
