Collaborating with young adult men and women, both in prison and community settings, a new @YJAdvisors report explores young adults’ experiences in the criminal justice and care system. Over what the Youth Justice Advisors describe as “a turbulent year” for many people, the team have focused on four priority areas: Race, Mental Health, Life after Prison, and the Care System and engaged with 333 young adults. The overriding theme of the report is policy and practice solutions.
The voices of young adults are often overlooked when it comes to decision and policy making, meaning strategies are formed without meaningful input from young adults. The Youth Justice Advisors believe it is crucial – now, more than ever – that the distinct experiences of young adults’ are addressed in policy and practice.
